Transcript: Mike McDaniel’s Media Availability – December 22, 2024

Moderator: Good morning, everyone. Thank you for joining us today. We’ll get started with Coach McDaniel. Coach, opening thoughts before we dive into questions?

Mike McDaniel: Good morning, everyone. Hope you’re all doing well. First off, it’s Week 16, so there’s a lot on the line, and I think that’s what makes this time of year so exciting. The team has been working hard, and we’re focused on building off what we’ve done while learning from areas we need to improve. With that, let’s get to your questions.

On Preparing for Week 16 Matchup

Reporter: Coach, with such a critical game coming up, how has the team responded in practice this week?

Mike McDaniel: I’ve been really impressed with the guys’ energy and focus. December football is always a grind, but it’s also when good teams define themselves. The effort we’re seeing in practice is a reflection of how much this group cares about finishing strong.

Injury Updates

Reporter: Can you give us any updates on key injuries heading into the weekend?

Mike McDaniel: Sure. As of now, we’re still evaluating a few players. [Injured Player] is day-to-day, and we’re taking it slow to ensure he’s ready when it matters most. Our training staff has been doing a great job, and we’ll make those decisions closer to game time.

Offensive Adjustments

Reporter: The offense has been strong this season, but there have been some recent hiccups. What adjustments are you focusing on?

Mike McDaniel: Great question. It’s always about execution and attention to detail. Defenses adjust as the season progresses, so we need to stay ahead by being versatile and efficient in our approach. We’re emphasizing fundamentals, particularly on third downs and in the red zone, where we need to capitalize on opportunities.

Defensive Challenges

Reporter: The opposing team has a strong running game. How do you plan to contain it?

Mike McDaniel: They’re definitely talented in that area. It’ll take a team effort—everyone staying disciplined, maintaining gap integrity, and tackling well. Our defensive line and linebackers have been working hard in practice, and I’m confident they’re ready for the challenge.

On Player Development

Reporter: You’ve had some younger players step up this season. Can you speak to their contributions?

Mike McDaniel: It’s been awesome to see. Developing talent is one of the most rewarding parts of coaching. Guys like [Young Player Name] have really embraced their roles, and their growth has been a huge asset for us. It speaks to the culture of this team and how veterans help bring the younger guys along.

Looking Ahead

Reporter: With playoff implications in mind, how do you keep the team focused on the immediate task?

Mike McDaniel: That’s the beauty of this group—they understand the importance of the moment. We talk a lot about controlling what we can control, and that’s our preparation and effort for this week. If we take care of that, the rest will follow.

Closing Remarks

Reporter: Coach, any final thoughts as we head into the weekend?

Mike McDaniel: Just that I’m proud of the effort this team has shown all season. This is what you work for—meaningful football in December. We’re excited for the opportunity and ready to give it our all. Thanks, everyone.

Moderator: Thank you, Coach McDaniel, and thank you to everyone for joining us today.

Mike McDaniel: Take care, everyone. See you on Sunday.
