Patrick Mahomes Named “AFC Offensive Player of the Week” for Second Time This Season
It marked his 30th career game with three or more passing touchdowns in just 67 total starts, meaning that Mahomes has thrown for 3+ scores in 45 percent of his games. Those 30 performances with 3+ touchdowns are also the most in the NFL since 2018 by a wide margin.
Mahomes’ brilliance on Sunday night went beyond just the box score, however, as he made numerous “Houdini” throws for which he has become synonymous. That included a completion on third down despite being tackled by a defender early in the game and an acrobatic touchdown pass a bit later that featured a 360-degree spin around Pro Bowl linebacker Devin White. Mahomes is a special player, and when he plays like he did on Sunday, the Chiefs are a very difficult squad to beat.
This is the ninth-career “Offensive Player of the Week” award for Mahomes, which are the most for any player in franchise history. It’s already his second time earning the award this season, as he also did so following Week 1.
Mahomes will now look to keep things rolling next week as the Chiefs host the Las Vegas Raiders at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium on Monday Night Football.
